Els deu primers exemplars van ser il·lustrats amb un frontispici de Salvador Dalí reproduït en heliogravat i aiguafort sobre paper Japó. Segons el colofó, el llibre es va acabar d’imprimir el 25 de juny de 1932 a la Imprimerie Union, per encàrrec d’Éditions des Cahiers Libres de París. Aquest exemplar en particular presenta remarques en el marge inferior de la planxa, l’anotació “imprimé par Lacourière” (imprès per Lacourière) i les inicials de l’artista en el bisell. Es tracta de l’exemplar que pertany a l’il·lustrador, Salvador Dalí, i inclou una dedicatòria d’André Breton a la portadella: “A Salvador Dalí / al gran mestre dels encanteris / a qui li dec veure amb els meus ulls / allò que adoro / i que és l’ésser que disposa de tot / del meu poder de sorpresa / des del fons del meu cor / el seu amic / André Breton” (1) . L’estampa de Dalí, carregada de misteri i erotisme, sembla captar l’essència poètica del llibre, el desenvolupament líric del qual es concep com un “itinerari natural de l’abraçada amorosa” (2) . Le Revolver à cheveux blancs forma part d’un conjunt de tres llibres de poesia surrealista publicats simultàniament per l’editorial Éditions des Cahiers Libres sota el lema “Le sujet de ce libre est un être mobile” (El tema d’aquest llibre és un ésser mòbil) (3).
